TRIBUNAL DISMISSED EZEKIEL NYA-ETOK PETITION AGAINST UMO ENO, OTHERS

The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Uyo, this morning dismissed the petition filed by Ezekiel NYA-ETOK against the election of Pastor Umo Bassey Eno of the Peoples Democratic Party.  The Petition was dismissed on the ground of failure to pay the security for cost upon the filing of the petition. The Tribunal held that the  failure to pay security for cost in election petition renders the petition incompetent. Paragraph 2 of the 1st Schedule to the Electoral Act 2022 stipulated payment of Security for cost in every election petition filed. Paragraph 3 of the Practice Direction 2022 also prescribed payment of Security for petitions.  Thus,Petitioners  had paid N1Million but but sued eleven respondent's. Paragraph 2 (4) of the 1st Schedule is fatal to the petition. Failure to pay is fatal. The petition is dismissed for being incompetent.

Posted on   A Nigerian woman who dumped her husband over a year ago has asked the court to intervene in getting her husband back after he moved on and got a new wife. According to reports, she dumped him soon after he lost his job. Akunna Faith, begged the court that her ex husband Orji Chukuemeka’s new wife should be kicked out from her matrimonial home and that she be allowed to get back with him. Akunna denied that she dumped him because he lost his job but said that Chukwuemeka had been violent towards her thus her need for a protection order. Federal High Court versus Court of Appeal: How PDP is creating chaos in the judiciary

Prompted and induced  by the PDP, Justice F. O. Rinman of the Federal High Court, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State is about to create a major judicial anarchy. The judge will this week give an order barring the President of the Court of Appeal from performing one of its statutory functions which is deciding the venue of the sitting of the Akwa Ibom Election Petition Tribunal. When this order is granted, Justice F O Rinman would have succeeded in pitching the Federal High Court against the Court of Appeal, which is a superior court, and in the process could create one of the most embarrassing judicial crises in the country. The Governorship, National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal in Uyo, Akwa Ibom says it has received no fewer than 34 petitions as at April 1. The Tribunal Secretary in the state, Sidiq Abubakar, made this known in a document made available to journalists on Wednesday. Mr Abubakar said that one of the petitions was filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state, Nsima Ekere against Governor Udom Emmanuel of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He said the tribunal also received two petitions emanating from the senatorial election, adding that Sen. Godswill Akpabio of APC filed one against Mr Christopher Ekpenyong of the PDP from Akwa Ibom North West. The secretary tribunal also said that Mr Bassey Etim of APC filed another petition against Sen. Bassey Akpan of the PDP from Akwa Ibom North East. BREAKING: Tribunal declares Adeleke winner

The People's Democratic Party Governorship Candidate in the 2018 Osun State Governorship election has been declared winner of the election by the court of Tribunal. Mr Adeleke who was the Candidate of the PDP took Mr Oyetola who was the Candidate of the APC and was declared the winner by INEC to the Court of Tribunal, challenging the outcome of the election. Ekpenyong weeps as Court bars INEC from issuing certificate of return

A Federal High Court sitting in Apo, Abuja, on Friday, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to stay action on the issuance of certificate of return to any candidate in respect of the election to the office of  the Senator, Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial election held on February 23, pending the determination of suit before it. Justice Valentine Ashi made the order in an application, with suit No. FCT/HC/M/2680/19, with Senator Godswill Akpabio as the applicant. The Independent National Electorial Commission (INEC) is the respondent. President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, replacing him with Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad. Meet the Ag CJN, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad

Justice Tanko was born on December 31, 1953 at Doguwa - Giade, a local government area in Bauchi State, Northern Nigeria. He attended Government Secondary School, Azare where he obtained the West Africa School Certificate in 1973 before he later proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University where he received a bachelor's degree in Law in 1980. He later obtained a Master and Doctorate (Ph. D) degree from the same university in 1984 and 1998 respectively. Tanko began his career in 1982, after he was Call to the bar in 1981, the same year he graduated from the Nigerian Law School. In 1989, he was appointed as Chief Magistrate of the High Court of Federal Capital Territory, a position he held till 1991 when he became a Judge at the Bauchi State Sharia Court of Appeal. He served in that capacity for two years before he was appointed to the bench of the Nigerian courts of appeal as Justice in 1993.
