Gov. Umo Eno Encourages PDP Ward Leaders to Welcome Back Returning Members In a meeting with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ward leaders in his hometown of Ibiakpan Obotim Ward2 center, Nsit Ubium local government areas, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State emphasized the importance of welcoming all returning members back to the party.  This initiative aims to bolster and strengthen the PDP’s support base and reinforce the party’s presence across the state’s 368 wards.  Governor Eno stressed the importance of these ward gatherings, highlighting them as an opportunity to embrace the increasing number of returnees to the PDP.  He stressed that the party’s responsible for governance and capacity to deliver have attracted many individuals back to the fold, even after the conclusion of the last general election.  The Governor expressed his delight in the increasing number of members returning to the PDP and emphasized that this development showcases the party’s stronghold in the state. 

  APC Defends Akpabio Over Budget Padding The All Progressives Congress has come out to defend the embattled president of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio over the raging issue of padding of the 2024 budget of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.  The Senate padded the budget with a sum of three trillion naira to the chagrin of citizens of the country, who expressed their displeasure over the attitude of the lawmakers to the suffering of the people of the country.  Opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party has asked the Senate President to resign over the matter. The publicity secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba challenged Godswill Akpabio to resign and allow an independent probe into the matter.  However, the All Progressives Congress countered the approach of the PDP to the matter. APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, argued that there is no unusual thing in what Akpabio did and that there is no need to involve the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission into the issue.

The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Uyo, this morning dismissed the petition filed by Ezekiel NYA-ETOK against the election of Pastor Umo Bassey Eno of the Peoples Democratic Party.  The Petition was dismissed on the ground of failure to pay the security for cost upon the filing of the petition. The Tribunal held that the  failure to pay security for cost in election petition renders the petition incompetent. Paragraph 2 of the 1st Schedule to the Electoral Act 2022 stipulated payment of Security for cost in every election petition filed. Paragraph 3 of the Practice Direction 2022 also prescribed payment of Security for petitions.  Thus,Petitioners  had paid N1Million but but sued eleven respondent's. Paragraph 2 (4) of the 1st Schedule is fatal to the petition. Failure to pay is fatal. The petition is dismissed for being incompetent.
