 GOV. ENO RELEASES N778.99 MILLION FOR WAEC FEES COVERING 48,797 STUDENTS The Akwa Ibom State Government has officially released N778,998,500 to cover fees for the 2023/2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebiet, revealed in an interview that this payment is for 48,797 students participating in the exam, including fees for NIN registration, biometric registration, administrative costs, and 50% of the WASSCE fee. She highlighted an increase in sundry charges, raising the State Government's yearly payment from N1 billion to N1.5 billion, with the WASSCE fee now standing at N27,000, up from N18,000. The initial payment aims to facilitate student participation in the exam, with an additional balance of over N700 million expected to be paid by the Government in the future.   Aniefiok Christopher A Forum of Former Presidents of Students' Union Government, that served in University of Uyo have concluded arrangements to inaugurate it's Board of Trustees (BOT) members come Thursday, 16th December, 2021.  The Chairman of the events Planning Committee, Mr. Michael Effiom disclosed this yesterday during a chat with newsmen in Uyo.  ITU COUNCIL BOSS ASSURES STUDENTS OF BURSARY PAYMENT As Students of Itu extraction mark the 2021 "Students Week" the Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Council; Hon. Barr. Etetim Onuk has reassured students from Itu Local Government Area of the administration's commitment towards ensuring the payment of bursary allowance to students studying in tertiary institutions, adding that they are currently working out modalities to ensure a smooth implementation of the policy. The State Universal Basic Education Board Chairman, Prof Maria Ikorok has charged Community leaders to safeguard  Basic School facilities and other public infrastructure provided in their domains to justify government's huge investment for the overall interest of the populace.  Prof Ikorok made the call while handing over a three classroom block constructed under the 2017/2018 UBE Intervention Projects at Government Secondary School, Afaha Atai, Eket LGA. ...as 41 Graduate Promise Etim The impact of the all expense scholarship scheme facilitated by Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East, Obong Bassey Albert, for students of the Senatorial District, is beginning to be felt, as two of the scholars from the first batch of the programme, recently graduated with first class honours, while 39 others bagged various degrees. The report as published in the annual appraisal of the scheme by its organizers in November, indicates that eighteen of the scholars graduated with second class upper degrees, while four obtained second class lower degrees. Four of the scholars also completed their medical programs, while three were recently inducted as Pharmacist by the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria. Wisdom Ibokette, an indigene of Etinan, currently on National Youth Service assignment in Kebbi State, and Ememobong Akpanekpo from Uyo, were two of the beneficiaries, who bagged first class honours, from the University of Uyo, with CGPA of 4.

In effect, the award of the HND will be limited to only the students currently admitted for the programmes. Also, all the programmes currently being run by the polytechnics, which are not technology-based, and which are about 70 per cent, will be scrapped. Under the new rule, the polytechnics will now become campuses of the proximate universities with the Vice Chancellors of those universities appointing provosts for the polytechnics, subject to the ratification of the Universities Councils. The polytechnics will now be limited to award of the National Diploma (ND) while those desirous of further education will be awarded the Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) by the proximate university.

Cultism: “Uncatching” them young By Edidiong Udobia True story 1 Some time last year, a youth corper who served in a certain secondary school around Ifa Atai, flogged one of his students for doing something wrong. Later that day, the student in company of other friends, went to the corper's house and shot the guy. Luckily for the corper, he took only one bullet on his leg while escaping so he survived. True story 2 Very recently, a JSS1 one student (male) in one of the secondary schools within Uyo metropolis, was bullied by a JSS3 student (male). During interrogation, the JSS3 student confessed that someone outside the school paid him N100 (one hundred naira) only, to come and beat the JSS1 boy but when he came, he had pity on boy because he knows him. So, he asked the boy to pay him (the JSS3 boy) double (N200) of the money the outsider paid. The JSS1 boy agreed but only to pay in instalments, but the boy was not paying regularly so he had to bully him. True story 3 A
