In a demonstration of accountable leadership and grassroots impact, the Councillor representing Mbiaso Ward 4 and Chairman, House Committee on Works, Housing and Rural Development, Hon. Hanson Otu, has presented his one-year scorecard in office, highlighting his stewardship and commitment to community development.
The event, held last weekend in Mbiaso, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, also featured the donation of 7,500 customised exercise books, along with packs of pens and pencils, to public primary schools within the ward.
Addressing stakeholders and residents during the briefing, Hon. Otu expressed heartfelt appreciation to the people of Mbiaso Ward 4 for the mandate entrusted to him, noting that leadership is meaningful only when it positively impacts the lives of the people.
He commended the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, for what he described as transformational leadership driven by the ARISE Agenda, which he said has continued to bring significant development across the state.
The councillor also acknowledged the support of the Executive Chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. Deaconess Otobong Aaron, praising her dedication and innovative approach to governance.
“I remain grateful for the guidance and support I have received. Her leadership has made a visible difference in the council area,” he stated.
Reaffirming his resolve to make lasting contributions to his constituency, Hon. Otu said he is determined to leave a positive legacy in Mbiaso Ward 4 through people-centred initiatives.
Reviewing his legislative activities, the lawmaker disclosed that within his first year in office he has moved several motions, maintained strict adherence to the standing rules of the Legislative Council, and sustained a harmonious working relationship with colleagues—efforts he noted have contributed to the smooth and timely passage of council business.
He further revealed that he sponsored a bill seeking to establish, standardise and revitalise the annual Christmas Festival in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area. According to him, the bill has successfully passed its first and second readings and is awaiting a public hearing before onward transmission to the Executive Chairman.
Hon. Otu added that, in collaboration with key stakeholders, a development template has been outlined to address the needs of communities including Ikot Nya, Ikot Akpan I, and Ikot Ebre, with projections captured within the 2024, 2025 and 2026 fiscal periods.
The highlight of the maiden stewardship briefing was the distribution of 7,500 customised exercise books, alongside writing materials, to pupils of the three public primary schools in Mbiaso Ward 4—an initiative aimed at supporting basic education and easing the burden on parents.
Residents and community leaders who attended the event described the gesture as timely and impactful, noting that investments in education remain vital to the long-term development of the ward.
