SUBEB BOSS TO COMMUNITY LEADERS: " PROTECT BASIC SCHOOL FACILITIES"








The State Universal Basic Education Board Chairman, Prof Maria Ikorok has charged Community leaders to safeguard  Basic School facilities and other public infrastructure provided in their domains to justify government's huge investment for the overall interest of the populace.

 Prof Ikorok made the call while handing over a three classroom block constructed under the 2017/2018 UBE Intervention Projects at Government Secondary School, Afaha Atai, Eket LGA.


She said the call  became necessary as facilities provided by the government are for the benefits of Communities, hence the  need for them to ensure its safety .

The  SUBEB Chairman directed community stakeholders to protect public utilities from vandalism arguing that, by doing so, it would save the government from investing on projects that have already been executed thereby  channelling such resources to other areas of needs.

She commended Governor  Emmanuel for the prompt release of counterpart funds for the UBE Intervention Projects and other provisions to enhance the standard of Basic Education in the state, describing the Governor as an education- friendly leader .


The Don applauded contractors for the timely delivery of the classroom block and urged that they should  make available a pavement round the classroom block  to ensure easy access of the facility by the pupils.

She assured the leaders of the community that plastic seats and dual desks would soon be delivered in the school to boost learning and teaching.

The  Chairman who  was also accompanied by Board Member 2, Bishop Ime Ekpe and others stopped over at the AME Zion Primary School, Idung Udo ,Eket  where  a three classroom block had been completed and handed over to the community for academic activities.

Prof Ikorok express satisfaction at the quality of job done by the contractors and advised the community to make optimal use of the facility .

The Chairman, State Secondary Education Board, Hon. Umana Umana who was in the team lauded the effort of Governor Udom for the timely release of funds for the actualisation  of educational programmes in the state .

Hon  Umana  stressed the need for the maintenance of facilities by Communities and  advised students to be serious with studies.

He recalled that Government Secondary School, Afaha Atai had only one classroom block, but now another classroom block has been handed over to the community while one is currently being constructed.

Responding,  the Village Head of Afaha  Atai, Eket, Chief Akpan Ekponudim  promised to provide maximum security for the protection of the  facilities .

The School Senior prefect Government School Afaha Atai, Promise Nehemiah on behalf of the students said they were very delighted at the provision made in the schools.

In her reaction, the Head Teacher of Girls High School, Ikot Ibiok Eket , Mrs Rose  Benson appreciated the State  Government for provision of a serene environment for teaching and learning.

Mrs. Benson appreciated SUBEB and Universal Basic Education, for their sincere commitment to the delivery of quality Basic Education in the state.

The SUBEB team had earlier embarked on the inspection schools in Mbo, Udunguko and Oron Local Government Areas.
