''Don't relent in your compliance to guidelines," Enobong Uwah charges Churches







The Chairman of of the Compliance Monitoring team for Uyo Capital City, Prince Enobong Uwah has again
urged Christians to continue adhering to precautionary measures in order to curb the spread of the COVID 19 Pandemic.

Prince Uwah who is also, the Chairman of Uyo Capital City Development Authority, UCCDA, made the clarion call, during the Day 2 of the monitoring of the level of compliance to guidelines for reopening of churches to check the spread of the virus. He explained that, even though the curve of infections in the State is flattening, more effort is still needed to completely eradicate the scourge.

While interacting with reporters, Prince Uwah said, he is impressed with the level of compliance so far. He however expressed worry that, some lapses were observed during the exercise, stressing that, few church members refused to use face masks while some churches didn't provide adequate sanitizing materials.


Prince Uwah emphasized that, the guidelines were put in place for the general good and well being of the congregation and urged the people to religiously abide by the regulations until the pandemic is defeated. He commended the efforts of Governor Udom Emmanuel to contain the pandemic and congratulated the State for having the virology lab at the isolation centre approved by the NCDC for COVID-19 tests.

Speaking immediately after the monitoring exercise, the state CAN Chairman Rev. Dr. Ndueso Ekwere commended most of the churches that adhered to the guidelines, noting that, recommendations would be made appropriately pertaining to churches that were found wanting.

It will be recalled that, in line with the determination of the Akwa Ibom State Government to curb the spread of the dreaded virus- Covid-19, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Akwa Ibom State Chapter,  came up with a modalities through their recommendations for the re-opening of Churches during the Covid -19 period; one of which was, to constitute a Monitoring Team to ascertain the level at which churches comply with the approved guidelines. The Monitoring team had commenced duty last Sunday, 7th June, 2020.

St. Anthony Catholic Church, 37 Bennet Bassey Street, Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo.
New Birth Bible Church, Word Tabernacle, Osongama Estate, The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Sir Udo Udoma Avenue Assembly, Revival Valley Ministries Int'l, Methodist Church, Nigeria,  Federal Housing Estate,  Oku Circuit, Diocese of Uyo, All Nations for Christ, 14 Enen Afaha Street, Dunamis Int'l Gospel Centre, The Lord's Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries, Hospital Road, Nung Ukot Itam, Idoro Road.

Others are, Grace Land Power Gospel Mission Inc, Hospital Road Nung Ukot Itam, United Evangelical Church, Nung Ukot Itam, Christ for the World Mission Inc, Park Road, Itam, The Lutheran Church of Nigeria, 37 Enwe Street, The Apostolic Church, 69 Oron Road, Living Faith Church, 205 Calabar Itu Highway and several others.
