The Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, and a Member of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima Campaign Council, Engr. Iboro Johnny, FNSE, has declared that the ruling party does not need federal might, state might or any form of political intimidation to secure APC victory in the 2027 general elections.
Engr. Johnny made the declaration while fielding questions from journalists during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s two-day working visit to Akwa Ibom State, where the President commissioned several landmark projects.
He praised President Tinubu and Governor Umo Eno for what he described as visible, people-oriented achievements, insisting that performance, rather than political propaganda, should be the strongest campaign message.
“Today, our President is commissioning life-touching projects in Akwa Ibom State. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Umo Eno are performing. When you have a good product, you don't need to say much to convince people. But when your product is bad, you resort to cutting corners just to sell it,” he said.
The City Boy Movement coordinator maintained that the people of Akwa Ibom State, particularly the youths, women and elders, have made their political preferences clear, expressing confidence in their readiness to support the APC and re-election of President Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno.
According to him, the growing support for President Tinubu is rooted in the administration's infrastructure and economic development agenda, particularly projects expected to transform transportation, trade and investment opportunities across the South-South region.
Dr. Johnny, specifically highlighted the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, describing it as a strategic national infrastructure project that would open new economic opportunities for coastal communities.
He also recalled the deplorable condition of the Calabar-Itu Highway, noting that the road, which was previously almost impassable, was now undergoing construction under the Tinubu's administration.
“Before now, travelling through the Calabar-Itu Highway was a terrible experience. Today, work is ongoing on that road, courtesy of Mr President. These are the kinds of interventions that make people appreciate leadership,” he stated.
He further expressed optimism over President Tinubu’s commitment to the development and eventual operationalisation of the Ibom Deep Seaport, describing the project as a potential game-changer for Akwa Ibom State and the wider Nigerian economy.
According to Engr. Johnny, the seaport, when operational, would create thousands of employment opportunities, stimulate import and export activities, attract local and foreign investors and position Akwa Ibom as a major commercial and maritime hub.
He said the anticipated investment opportunities would not only strengthen the state's economy but also improve the livelihoods of residents, particularly young people seeking meaningful employment.
“We believe that when the Ibom Deep Seaport becomes operational, Akwa Ibom will experience a new wave of economic growth. Investors will come, businesses will thrive, jobs will be created and our people will have more opportunities to prosper,” he added.
Dr. Johnny expressed profound appreciation to President Tinubu, the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Governor Umo Eno and the President's son, Barrister Seyi Tinubu, for their support and contributions.
He also commended APC supporters and stakeholders who turned out in solidarity during the presidential visit, praying for God's abundant blessings upon them.
He concluded by reiterating that the 2027 electoral contest should be determined by the people's confidence in leadership and the administration's record of performance, rather than the deployment of political power.
“For us, it is about the people. We don't need federal might or state might. We believe that when the people see what the government has done and what it intends to do, they will make their choice,” Dr. Johnny declared.
