NATIONHOOD: THE NIGERIAN JOURNEY AND THE RULE OF LAW

BY DR AUSTIN ORETTE   It takes time to form a country. It takes patience and dedication to change attitudes. When people from disparate places and cultures are brought together to form a Nation, it is never easy. In the long run, the tears and toil are worth it because the interactions lead to expansion of consciousness which drives human progress.    The journey of nationhood is not for timid souls. It was never easy for countries like India, China   and the USA to rise. It is not an easy journey. These countries have more divisions and more ethnic and religious cleavages and groupings than we can ever imagine.    America conducted an election in the midst of war. Nigeria conducted elections by declaring curfews and turning cities to militarized zones.  These democracies we try to emulate did not give power to their military to intimidate their citizens.   Since the advent of our democracy, we have used the military as a law enforceme...

NDCCITMA SET TO HOLD ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE SCHEME, FRIDAY 17, OCTOBER - LIVENEWSGUNS

. . . Tackle economic challenges at grassroots  "Teach us how to fish and we will never lack fish." This age-long adage captures the enduring philosophy of the Niger Delta people. The Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Trade, Mines and Agriculture (NDCCITMA) was established to tackle economic challenges at the grassroots and promote sustainable development across the region. Its mission is to create economic empowerment through entrepreneurship, skill acquisition, and local industrial growth. THE IGBOS DON’T NEED TO FIGHT THE YORUBAS IN LAGOS TO WIN LAGOS” - OBASANJO - Livenewsguns

“All they need to do is give a quit notice to every Yoruba tenant living in their various houses, terminate their jobs where they are the employers, and withdraw them from managing their lands as caretakers — and you will see Lagos become empty overnight.” According to Obasanjo, the Igbos don’t need to fight the Yorubas in Lagos to win the city — their power is already rooted in ownership and investment. He went on to reveal that most Yorubas in Lagos today live in houses owned by Igbos, and many of the properties across major areas of the city are now controlled by them.  “Let’s be honest — the Igbos have bought and built up a greater part of Lagos. Most Yorubas living there are tenants in Igbo-owned properties. That’s the hard reality,” Obasanjo added.  “Peace is not weakness,” he said, “but when you provoke a people who built your comfort, you risk losing it all”

UNEASY NEIGHBOURS AND THE BIAFRA DIALOGUES

UNEASY NEIGHBOURS AND THE BIAFRA DIALOGUES  BY DR AUSTIN ORETTE   Lately, there have been eruption of kings and kingdoms of the Igbo people all over Nigeria and other parts of the world. If these occurrences were not being normalized, they will be easy to ignore.   Some months ago, I wrote that the two tribes militating against Nigeria progress are the Fulani and the Igbo. From the surface, they look different but their core ideology is the same.   I wrote a five part essay on how the Fulani people achieved their dominance of Nigeria. They used Religion. They are colonizers and they only want to be Nigerians if they are in charge.   The Igbo people only want to be in Nigeria if they are in charge. The South-East people want to achieve the same thing by using commerce and psychological warfare. Where the Fulani people are quiet, the Igbo people are haughty. You can hear their steps many miles away. The Fulani people are austere while the Igbo people are opp...

The Executive Chairman of ONNA Local Government Area, Hon. Kufre Umoren, has expressed profound gratitude to the youths of the area for their support, describing them as the "backbone" of his administration. Hon. Umoren made the remarks on Saturday, October 11, 2025, while hosting all Village Youth Presidents of ONNA at his family residence in Ikot Ese Ishiet, as part of activities marking his first anniversary in office. In his address, the Chairman commended the youths for embracing peaceful dialogue rather than violence in addressing community issues and assured them that his administration remains committed to promoting youth empowerment and inclusive development. "I wouldn’t be standing here as Executive Chairman if you had not spoken with one voice in support of me," he said. "Your unity made it possible for the elders to adopt me as the youth slot. And that is why I have come to say thank you. This David you chose to make king in the house of Jesse wil...
