...HARPS ON PREVENTIVE MEASURES
Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey on Tuesday, presented relief materials to staff of the Assembly, as part of modalities to ameliorate effects of the state government's ban on movement to contend spread of the ravaging coronavirus.
Donating the items on Tuesday at the Assembly Complex, the Speaker represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Charles Iwatt, said the gesture was aimed at cushioning the effect of the ongoing statewide restriction of movement.
He said the 7th Assembly under his watch, remains committed to staff welfare and urged the workers to adhere to all precautionary measures issued by government and medical experts.
While advising them to use the items judiciously, the Speaker urged the staff to use the stay-at-home period to seek divine intervention for the global pandemic to end.
Clerk of the Assembly, Mrs Mandu Umoren who spoke on behalf of the Assembly Management, described the gesture as a practical demonstration of love toward the workers and prayed for God's blessings on the Speaker and Members of the 7th Assembly.
Responding on behalf of the staff, Chairman of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Comrade Etiwan Sunday, thanked the Speaker for his generosity and said the workers will continually help the current Assembly in meetings its targets.
Present during the brief presentation exercise were the Assembly's Director of Administration, Mrs Yinki Edunam, Director of Publications, Mrs Juliana Okokon, Cashier of House, Mr Monday Akpan and the Chief Protocol to the Speaker, Mr Desmond Etim.
The items included bags of rice, beans, cartons of instant noodles, seasonings, salts and cash.
