Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has urged the newly elected leadership of the State chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria to synergize with his administration, and
eschew parochial sentiments in order to advance the ARISE Agenda.
Speaking while receiving the new youth leaders, the youths- loving Governor who, dressed in shorts and Polo tee- shirt, having just returned from the gymnasium, said he was very particular about the youth development,hence his administration's decision to create a separate Ministry for Youth Development.
He urged the council Chairman to strive to leave positive footprints, saying, "During your tenure as Chairman, you should be able to say you pioneered this or that programme with your executive. That is the legacy you should leave behind. Work with the Honourable Commissioner to train and develop our young people. That is all I expect from you, not to fight yourself or the Government."
The Governor who has been emphatic about his commitment to peace and unity of the State, cautioned them to avoid being used by anyone to foment trouble, as such would not be tolerated.
"There is no point in fighting each other. It is time for you to come together, sit together, work together, bring up programmes for the development of youths of Akwa Ibom State.
He advised that irrespective of anyone who sponsored
their elections, their utmost interest and commitment should be to the State.
"From the faces I have seen here, I believe that you are good people and you should be able to collaborate and work with each other. Don't bring ethnic sentiments here.
"We should work together. It is not about Ibibio, Annang, or Oro. You are all young people, and Akwa Ibom is one. Our forebears worked together, that is why we had the Ibibio State College in Annang Land."
He commended the Commissioner for Youths Development, Dr. Ekerette Ekanem, and the Electoral Board for the successful conduct of the election, and urged the Commissioner to recognize them and work with them for the good of the State.
Earlier, Dr. Ekanem said it was two years since the resolution of the immediate past Executive Council of the body, adding that the chapter has successfully elected new members to pilot their affairs.
He appreciated the Governor for his love for the youths, especially with the creation of a separate ministry for youths development, and specifically commended him for his lofty plans and programmes for the youths.
"Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity and platform to get our youths developed. Here before you are the new elected members of the State Youth Executive Council of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State. The election was conducted successfully two days ago, and in line with the constitution of the National Youth Council of Nigeria," he said.
In his brief remark, the State Chairman of the NYCN, Emmanuel Uko Ekong, appreciated the Governor and members of the group for the opportunity to serve and assured that the executive under his leadership will collaborate and synergize with all relevant stakeholders to develop the youths and advance the ARISE Agenda of the State Government.
