....As Akan Okon Bags New Award

The Itu Palace Council Youth wing - Itu Youth Development Forum, has conferred an award of excellence as their Patron on Mr. Akan Okon, the Honourable Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Akwa Ibom State.


The Itu Youth Development Forum is made up of youth leaders from all the villages in the eleven wards that makes up Itu Local Government Area.



Responding after being conferred with the award, Mr Akan Okon thanked the Itu Youth Development Forum for the honour done him, saying that the government is aware of the roles played by the youths in the state, particularly in maintaining law and order in their various villages by allowing peace to reign.


He assured them that Governor Emmanuel's administration would live to its campaign promises by empowering the youths as the future leaders for a better society.


The Hon. Commissioner also implored them to continue to be law abiding and sustain the peaceful coexistence experienced in their various Communities.


He pointed out that the youths should serve as vehicles that drive government programmes down to the grassroot.


Presenting the award to the Commissioner in his office on Monday, the General Youth President of the Itu Youth Development Forum, Obong Ubong Akpan said that the honour was in recognition of his outstanding contributions, and concern for the  development of youths, as well as his immense contributions towards the growth of their communities, the state and the nation.


Obong Akpan remarked that the forum is saddled with the responsibilities of maintaining peace, fostering love and oneness in the true spirit of  "Ima Ye Edidiana Kied" just as the proverbial broom whose numerical strength makes it a useful item for sweeping.


He said their unity as a people is necessitated by the actualization of their ideologies and potentials as they jointly work towards the development of their villages in particular and Itu Local Government Area in general.


The President appreciated His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for finding their son worthy to serve in this capacity which he has proven himself as a good steward.


He appealed for more assistance to the youths and assured of their support to the government at all levels.


In attendance at the event was the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Effiong Ekpenyong.
