The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Amos Etuk today led members of the State Executive Committee (SEC) of the Union on a visit to the Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, Hon Aniekan Akpan and members his Executives.
In his speech, the NUJ Chairman disclosed that the visit was to reaffirm the existing partnership between the Union and the Party and to request that members of the Union by carried along in the areas of prompt reportage as the elections is fast approaching.
He maintained that the NUJ in the State is made up of trained and skilled Journalists poise to promote objective reportage aimed at uniting the people and projecting the State as in general.

"We have come here as critical stakeholders to reaffirm the partnership that we have established with the Party under your very dynamic and visionary leadership.
We are here to consolidate on the very strategic and political process right now in Akwa Ibom State and likewise Nigeria.
The synergy that we have provided today for the party leadership to meet the NUJ leadership is the very first of its kind and a very big milestone indeed.
We are here to lay a foundation that will build bridges of unity, enhance professionalism and set an agenda for the greater Akwa Ibom State because all of us are key stakeholders in the Akwa Ibom project, saddled with the obligation of building the legacy of our forefathers under this ruling party.
This is a better time for the Union and the Party to come together so that we can chat a very strong cause that will give Akwa Ibom people the strong confidence in their resolutions.
The NUJ is the only recognized professional media body in Nigeria and we will always remain apolethical.
Moreso, the NUJ in Akwa Ibom State has never engaged in building and joining sensational stories that will mislead the public because we have highly trained and skilled professionals who will always investigate news stories before it is published.
We will never indulge in acts that will bring disrepute to this profession and there's no questionable character among members of our Union".
Etuk thanked the Party Chairman for receiving members of the Union and also applauded him for the unity that he has brought to PDP, pledging the Union's commitment in being part of the Party's programmes and activities especially during this election period.
In his response the State PDP Chairman, Hon Aniekan Akpan welcomed the leadership of AK NUJ for the visit and commended Amos Etuk's leadership style as evidenced in the commitment of members working in unison for the projection and development of Akwa Ibom State which remains a project for all.
He pledged the Party's readiness to work in collaboration with the NUJ in the State by getting them involved in all activities of the Party when and where occasion demands.
The Party Boss charged Journalists on objective reportage and commended the NUJ in Akwa Ibom State for remaining critical stakeholders as far as promt reportage is concerned.
"I must appreciate the NUJ in Akwa Ibom State for you have been critical stakeholders because you are there as Watchdogs, the ones watching us and directing our steps when found wanting to make amends.
The cooperation has been there and I appreciate that on behalf of the Party and we want that to continue".
He described PDP as a well organized, consistent and transparent political Party where members are given a level playing ground to act, as well as the electorates the enabling environment to take decisions in line with democratic principles.
The Party Chairman recalled that the PDP has repositioned and charted a new narrative for the State in terms of infrastructural and human capital development since inception in 1999 through successive governance and called on all Aspirants under the Party's platform to play politics in the spirit of brotherhood and accept election results in good faith.
Present at the meeting were the State Secretary of PDP, Hon Harrison Ekpo, Publicity Secretary, Mr Borono Bassey and other State Officers of the Party.
