LG Poll: Dorah Ebong charges Chairmanship candidates on patriotism
The Federal Character Commissioner representing Akwa Ibom State, Obongawan Dorah Ebong, has charged all the Chairmanship candidates of all political parties that feature in the forthcoming, October 5, 2024 Local Government Election to be patriotic and work for the overall interest of Akwa Ibom citizens.
Ebong made this charged during a one day Critical Stakeholders Engagement with the theme : "Towards a free , fair and credible 2024 Local Government Election in Akwa Ibom State" held yesterday in Uyo, Federal Character Boss who was Mother of the day , tasked Chairmanship candidates to embark on life touching projects to raise the standard of living in the rural communities.
In her words, "If those contesting for chairmanship position in our various Local Government Areas are not here for the signing of peace accord, it means they're seeking for selfish interest rather than serving , protecting and working for the interest of Akwa Ibom citizens."
"Am urging the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission, AKISIEC to be umpire and give us free and fair election, security agencies should do their work, providing security before, during, and after election. Let there be peace in Akwa Ibom State," Federal Character Boss stressed.
Dorah Ebong reiterated that we only have one Akwa Ibom State and therefore we must protect. Adding that security agencies must be apolitical and show professionalism in discharge of their duties while electorate exercise their franchise.
Obonganwan Ebong maintained that AKISIEC is saddle with uncompromised responsibility and should not be used by politicians to rig the election but meticulous discharge their mandate without favoritism of certain persons or political parties.
The critical Stakeholders Engagement was organized by Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network, CHRAN in collaboration with AKISIEC. It drawn all political class, royal fathers, security agencies, civil society organization and to mentioned but a few.
Highpoint of the event was enlightened with the signed of Peace Accord and resolution reached in preparation for the forthcoming October 5, 2024 Local Government Election elections.
