Apart from citizen apathy, the Land Use Decree of 1978 gave unchecked powers to do as they wish with the land that belongs to the people. The governors have unchecked powers in this regard. Prophet Ekong Ituen has cautioned members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against celebrating the outcome of the recent national convention, stating that the party may soon face fresh legal and political setbacks. According to the cleric, his revelation indicates that a court of competent jurisdiction may nullify the convention, adding that the internal crisis within the PDP is far from over, with more intense political battles ahead. He further warned that the party may struggle to present a presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.
