UDOM HAS EARNED FOR AK THE HEART AND RESPECT OF NIGERIA, EKONG SAMPSON

Governor Udom Emmanuel has won the heart and respect of Nigeria for Akwa Ibom people with his leadership style and innovative governance.

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Economic Development  Labour and Manpower Planning, Rt. Hon. (Barr) Ekong Sampson stated this in Uyo while appearing as studio guest on a Ministry of Information and Strategy sponsored Live Radio AKBC 90.5 FM programme – Update Akwa Ibom.

Ekong Sampson said the peaceful disposition of Governor Udom Emmanuel, his religious standing and passionate appeal for the development of the state in the face of oddities have earned the Governor the respect and love of Nigeria which the people of Akwa Ibom now enjoy.

He said the Governor’s commitment to developing the state is demonstrated in his diversifying of the economy as encapsulated in his 8-point Completion Agenda adding that the Ministry of Economic Development played key role in providing the roadmap and compass for the development processes of the state.

Maintaining that, his Ministry is vast as it also takes charge of Labour matters and the manpower needs of the state, the two time Legislator and Local Government Chairman said, the Ministry is gearing efforts at bridging the gap between the government and the private sector which is a major catalyst in the development matrix of any society.

To this end, according to Rt. Hon. Ekong, the Ministry is partnering development bodies and organizations, NGOs and donor agencies on development programmes for the people of the state emphasizing that, modalities are underway to tackle manpower requirement of the state.

“With the big industries operating in the state and those coming on stream like the Ibom Deep Sea Port, the Coconut Oil refinery and the industrial parks, there is need for training and retraining of qualified personnel to meet the capacity needs of the industries so I call on all Akwa Ibom people, mostly the youths to take up this challenge”, the Commissioner stated.

On the re-election of Governor Emmanuel, the one-time Special Adviser on Political and Legislative Affairs said the Governor’s victory at the polls is a reflection of the wishes and prayers of Akwa Ibom people and called on the losers to come out of the trenches and look at the larger matrix by joining in the development of Akwa Ibom State for the benefit of all.

He describes the Governor as one leader whose actions and activities are guided by God with sound integrity which explains the high level of accountability and transparency prevailing in public offices in the state more than ever before.

Speaking on the new minimum wage, the Commissioner assured  Akwa Ibom workers of government's readiness to pay as stipulated, emphasizing that Governor Emmanuel is labour-friendly and will not relent in providing the enabling environment and facilities to boost the morale of workers for enhanced performance and maximum productivity.

He urged the people of the state particularly the unemployed youths to keep up with the Dakkada philosophy, to rise to their faith of greatness stressing that opportunity and fortune meet only the ready man on his feet and not the man sleeping and snoring on his bed.

Expressing deep appreciation to Akwa Ibom people, mostly the women on the re-election of Governor Udom Emmanuel, the Economic Development Boss implored all to be steadfast with the Governor as he completes his industrialization-drive for the state and urged all to be wary of blind followership which is cancerous leading many people to destruction and perils.

On what the future portends for the State, Barr. Ekong Sampson said, the people are in for a greater Akwa Ibom with sustainable peace and security, progress and prosperity.
