IKOT EKPENE RALLY: A TEST OF APC POPULARITY IN A’IBOM

By Asuama Ekpo
For those who still doubt the acceptability and popularity of All Progressives Party (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, the  APC rally held in Ikot Ekpene Local Government  ended that doubt.

An event which was meant to be a campaign rally for the upcoming elections at Ikot Ekpene stadium turned  into   concert and carnival as different socio-political groups, performing artists and celebrities took to the stage to register their support and solidarity for APC and its candidates in Akwa Ibom State.

The occasion which was a mere local government campaign rally became more like a presidential campaign rally as a mammoth crowd  of APC supporters gathered with joy, excitement and jubilation to demonstrate their support for the party they believe will best serve the interest of the common person in the society.

The sea of heads of persons at the stadium was a notable  measure of the popularity and acceptability of  APC in Akwa Ibom State. It shows the direction Akwa Ibom people have decided to go in the  coming  elections.  It is obvious that the people are tired of fake promises, groundbreakings, and the  scandalous propaganda that characterize the current PDP administration in the State.

A strong supporter of APC from Ikot Ekpene, Hon. Usenini whom yours sincerely encountered at the venue of the rally, expressed hope in APC and affirmed that the party is taking over from PDP in the State. According to him, “The strategy APC is adopting for campaign by going to the grassroots  and meeting people at the Ward level has given the party the much needed popularity. PDP government under Governor Udom Emmanuel has failed Akwa Ibom State. The governor has made life difficult for so many people including retired civil servants.  APC has promised to take care of civil servants by paying all their entitlements and ensuring that promotions are accompanied with financial benefits. It is why we all support the party and we are ready for change.”

The mammoth crowd of voluntary APC supporters turned the campaign to a merrymaking event.  Even when the rally officially ended for the day as it was already dusk in line with ELECTORAL ACT , many people still wanted to continue in the joyful celebration, thus testifying to how popular APC is in Akwa Ibom.

Those who still wallow and parrot these worn out clichés: “Akwa Ibom is PDP” and “PDP is like a religion in Akwa Ibom” should check, cross-check and re-check their statistics using empirical facts side by side with the reality on ground. They should ascertain this reality and ensure that they are not dwelling in the past because Akwa Ibom State is already moving to NEXT LEVEL.
