...Commissioner Declares Akwa Ibom Among Safest States in Nigeria

The Akwa Ibom State Government (AKSG), through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, has announced its partnership within the Akwa Ibom Food Festival (AKIFF) 2025, scheduled to hold from November 18 to Saturday, 22, 2025, at Unity Park, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo
The event, themed "Optimizing Akwa Ibom Cuisines, Taste, Tourism, and Economy,” l aims to showcase the state’s rich culinary heritage, promote cultural tourism, and boost economic opportunities across the food and agro-allied sectors.
Speaking during the official unveiling and media parley in Uyo, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anietie Nseowo Udofia, described tourism as “the heartbeat of Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE agenda,” emphasizing that the quality of local cuisine forms an essential part of the tourism experience.
“The Ministry of Culture and Tourism will partner with AKIFF to promote our culture, cuisine, and economy while creating opportunities for our teeming youths,” Dr. Udofia said. “Akwa Ibom State currently ranks among the safest states to live in Nigeria, second only to Oyo State.”
Dr. Udofia further explained that the festival would stimulate job creation, revive some indigenous delicacies that are gradually going extinct, and promote the state as a leading destination for food and culture. He commended the organizers, De-Noahua Tourism Enterprise, for their commitment to advancing the state’s tourism and hospitality industry.
Earlier, the **Chief Executive Officer of De-Noahua Tourism Enterprise, Mr. Ukpong Umoh, described the festival as a unique business and cultural brand capable of transforming the food and agro-allied industry in Akwa Ibom and beyond.
“Through AKIFF 2025, we aim to reconnect local farmers, food processors, and chefs, while promoting indigenous cuisines, enhancing crop production, and advancing food sustainability and security,” Mr. Umoh stated.
He revealed that Akwa Ibom boasts over 253 traditional cuisines, including asa iwa and efere akpakpa, which reflect the state’s cultural depth and creativity.
According to him, the Akwa Ibom Food Festival* is designed as an annual event to foster unity, peace, and progress among the people of the state. This year’s edition will feature cooking and eating competitions, exhibitions, culinary tours, and a farmers’ and stakeholders’ roundtable.
