…Aesthetics, Engineering Excellence — NSE Abak
By Ifiokabasi Abia
Uyo, Akwa Ibom State — The Managing Director of Bulletin Construction Company, Chief Faysal Harb, has commended the Akwa Ibom State Government for its foresight in transforming the state’s environmental challenges into a hub of tourism and economic opportunities through the ARISE Resort Park project.
Speaking during an excursion by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Abak Branch, to the ARISE Resort Park in Uyo, Chief Harb described the project as *“a perfect example of turning waste to wealth.”*
He explained that the site, once a vast expanse of degraded land plagued by gully erosion that threatened the School of Nursing, Nwaniba, has now become Nigeria’s first and finest recreational resort.
“Our work is to build structures and hand them over to the Akwa Ibom State Government. This area was once waste land, riddled with erosion and flooding from Ewet Housing Estate. We redirected the flood and reclaimed the land. What was waste has now become wealth,” Chief Harb said.
“All structures are at the finishing level and by December 15, we will hand over this project to the good people of Akwa Ibom State.”
Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE Abak Branch, Engr. Nsikak Akpan, described the ARISE Resort Park as *“a masterpiece of aesthetic and engineering excellence,”* applauding the company’s adherence to global best practices in project delivery.
The Project Manager, Engr. Ojike Joseph, while conducting the engineers round the facility, disclosed that the park was designed with advanced modern technology and powered by both renewable electricity and a 1,500 KVA generating plant, alongside a public power source for stable energy supply.
He added that the 73-hectare resort features a golf course, golf club house, gym centre, car park, emergency exit, children’s playground, pavilion, indoor games centre, 15 units of two-bedroom apartments, five units of three-bedroom apartments, and a 15-meter water channel network for effective flood control.
Other engineers who spoke, including Engr. Festus and members of the NSE delegation, expressed admiration for the creativity and vision behind the project, describing it as a physical manifestation of Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda.
“What we see here is heaven on earth. The engineering ingenuity is exceptional. The erosion menace that once threatened the School of Nursing is now history. This project will boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and stands as a testament to indigenous engineering capacity,” they said.
They also commended the state government for promoting local content, noting that “no expatriates were involved — all works were executed by indigenous engineers.”
