Abak, Akwa Ibom State – November 2025
Stakeholders of Abak Local Government Area have showered encomiums on Engr. Iboro Johnny for his remarkable efforts in facilitating the 70-kilometre road construction project in Uruk Uso, Abak Local Government Area.
During a courtesy visit and project inspection, the former Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Moses Ekpo, commended Engr. Johnny for his uncommon commitment to community development, describing him as a man who places humanity above self-enrichment and personal gain.
“These projects are not about politics. You have chosen a life of service,” Mr. Ekpo stated, urging others to emulate Engr. Johnny’s passion for development and his dedication to improving the living standards of his people.
Also speaking, Rt. Hon. Friday Iwok, a former lawmaker, lauded Engr. Johnny’s developmental vision, noting that the road network will significantly ease the transportation of agricultural produce to urban markets.
According to him, “Uruk Uso, Otoro, and Afaha Obong Clans now enjoy an infrastructural renaissance akin to what we see in developed cities, with asphalted roads, healthcare facilities, and other life-touching amenities.”
He further advised members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Abak Branch, to maintain unity and support one another, saying, “Do not fight leadership; when your turn comes, no one will fight you. Some may not be happy with your success, but do it for humanity — and God will stand by you.”
In his remarks, Engr. Iboro Johnny said his motivation is rooted in faith and service, not politics.
“I’m doing this for Jesus, not for politics,” he said. “I could have used the money to buy a private jet, but instead I chose to invest it in my community’s infrastructure. My father was a commercial motorcyclist, and we never had asphalted roads in Uruk Uso. Today, by God’s grace, every road here is tarred.”
He emphasized that his commitment stems from passion for his people and professional integrity.
“What I do for my community is not politics but purpose. Confessions without professions equal confusion,” he noted.
Engr. Johnny expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Abak Branch, for their solidarity during the inspection, announcing that over 65 kilometres of roads have been fully completed and delivered.
He also highlighted the challenges of executing NDDC projects without upfront mobilization, adding, “To do such projects, you must have capacity. Don’t fight a man with grace — otherwise, you may end up with disgrace.”
At the Offot Road project site, Mr. Enobong Sunday, an artisan, described Engr. Johnny as a man with a heart of gold who loves his people deeply.
Similarly, Mrs. Affiong Godwin Akpan, a women leader, prayed for continued blessings upon Engr. Johnny, noting that the quality of life in Uruk Uso now rivals that of urban areas.
Youth representative Mr. Etido Akpan also eulogized him for providing “state-of-the-art street lighting and infrastructure that boost local businesses.”
Other community members, including Mr. Monday Udoh, a commercial motorcyclist, and Mrs. Elizabeth Ukeme and Mr. Ofonmbuk Uko, expressed gratitude, describing Engr. Johnny as a leader who understands grassroots needs and responds with compassion and vision.
The highlight of the inspection was a renewed call for synergy, collaboration, and continued support for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno to sustain the pace of development across the Niger Delta.
