Inculcate habit of excellence among Nigerian students says UBEC

The Assistant Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Sharon Oviemuno has called on teachers to inculcate habit of excellence among Nigerian students to help compete with other children in the world.

She made this called yesterday at  basic education advocacy meeting with UBEC officials, organized by Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), held in Uyo.

In her words, "excellence is our watch words. Which we are taking round to states. If teachers pays attention to the children, it will help these children to discover or know themselves and build good qualities in them.

"Please take into heart, it is very important that we inculcate in this children the culture of excellence. Tomorrow when the child go out of Nigeria to Italy, America, to wherever,  they will carry it with them and will want to excel in life.

"What will you expect that child to be? The teacher should advice the child. To form part of the child's lifestyle. Carry this message to all the teachers and students.

"A child of excellence bring no time for excessive play.

"I am a product of public schools. From my primary to secondary school, NCE, first degree to PhD. Was in public schools. I am proud to say it any where. I can compete with my mates any where like Europe, and America. I stay on my own. Let us bring those days back. You have responsibility. Let us go into action now," Oviemuno stressed.

Dr. Sharon Oviemuno appreciated teachers and described them as partner in progress. She urged teachers to put more effort to have the best among Nigerian children to stand with confidence in any challenges in the future.

The Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Maria Ikorok in her remarked said basic education is the responsibility of all.
She charged teachers to ensured qualitative education. Adding that the quality education should match the products.

Ikorok reiterated that teachers must first of all prepare work plan as a strategic tools for positive results.

She expressed excitement, and confidence for their coming to Akwa Ibom state.

Meanwhile, at projects monitoring site,  Federal Government College. Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area. UBEC  Library project completed not use. UBEC officials in their remarked asked to write officially to UBEC. Furnish and put to use.

Ukana West Vocational School. Ukana West, Essien Udim Local Government Area. UBEC officials called the contractor to complete the project at earnest
and handover to SUBEB.

The team also visited Government Model Girls School. Ikot Ekang, Abak Local Government Area, over two hundred students welcomed the team. The leader of UBEC team, Dr. Sharon Oviemuno, in her advised, to the students to study hard to be prominent in future.
