In spite of the chronic power shortages in Akwa Ibom state, the $1.6bn QIPP power plant being built in Ibeno, Akwa Ibom is going be to supplying power exclusively to Kano.
The Kano State Governor, Ganduje has signed an agreement with the managing director of the transmission company of Nigeria that ensures that all of the power put on-grid by the power plant will be delivered equivalently to Kano.
Governor Udom Emmanuel has not commented on why Akwa Ibom state will not be receiving any of the power generated, in spite of announcing the initiative at the South South regional workshop and stakeholders forum on the ease of doing business in Nigeria held, in Uyo.
Akwa Ibom citizens are perturbed at the development, at a recent forum of engineers held in Abak, the discussion was heated, with many engineers insisting that the state government ensure that at least 100mw of the power generated be reserved for use by Akwa Ibomites.
The state government has not made any moves to fulfil the requests by the citizens and has not offered any comments so far on the matter.
