As part of sustained efforts to deepen access to affordable, efficient and environmentally friendly transportation, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, will on Saturday January 24, 2026, flag-off the Construction of Ibom Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Mass Transit Terminal.
The flag-off ceremony which is scheduled to take place by 4pm and is expected to mark another strategic step in the administration's drive to reposition public transportation in line with national clean energy and cost-reduction initiatives.
The Ibom CNG Mass Transit Terminal is designed to serve as a hub for CNG-powered public transportation, providing commuters with a safer, cheaper and cleaner alternative to conventional fuel-powered mass transit systems.
The project also positions the state to take advantage of emerging opportunities within Nigeria’s evolving clean energy ecosystem.
Implemented as part of the government’s broader commitment to economic relief and improved quality of life, the facility is also expected to enhance urban mobility, support job creation and stimulate technical capacity development in CNG technology and operations.
On assumption of office, the Governor emphasized the need for infrastructure investments that will directly impact the daily lives of citizens. The Ibom CNG Mass Transit Terminal reflects this philosophy, combining innovation with practicality in addressing transportation challenges faced by residents.
Beyond providing a platform for mass transit operations, the terminal is designed to support maintenance, operational coordination and future expansion of CNG-powered transport services within the state.
As the project takes off on Saturday, it represents another deliberate step by the current administration towards sustainable development, environmental responsibility and people-centred governance, in line with the ARISE Agenda.
