Uyo, the calm and welcoming capital of Akwa Ibom State, is steadily emerging as a city of new possibilities. Blessed with a green and serene environment, rich African continental cuisine, and a growing reputation for hospitality, the city is increasingly attracting attention for tourism, business, leisure, and innovation. In a defining moment for its evolution, Uyo is set to host the maiden Nigeria Tech Rally, a move widely seen as a bold transition from a traditionally civil service–driven economy to a fast-rising technology destination.
The historic rally, scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on January 27, 2026, is being organized by the Hi-Tech Centre for Women and Youths, Uyo, in collaboration with the National Board for Technology Incubation, Abuja. The event is expected to spark a new wave of innovation, optimism, and economic opportunity across the South South region and beyond.
More than a routine technology gathering, the Nigeria Tech Rally comes at a critical point in Nigeria’s development journey, where digital innovation has become a proven engine for economic growth and job creation. Recent industry assessments show that the digital economy now contributes over 18 percent to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product, creating millions of jobs across software development, fintech, agritech, e-commerce, and other digital services. Despite this progress, gaps in access, skills development, and inclusion remain, particularly among youths, women, and emerging communities.
Anchored on the theme, “Fostering an Inclusive Digital and Tech-Enabled Economy for Sustainable Development,” the rally reflects a deliberate, people-focused response to these challenges. It emphasizes that technology must go beyond tools and connectivity to deliver empowerment, opportunity, and shared prosperity. Special attention is placed on women, youths, startups, small businesses, and underserved groups, reinforcing the belief that innovation thrives best when everyone is carried along.
The choice of Uyo as host city is both symbolic and strategic. Once known mainly as an administrative centre, the city is steadily redefining itself as a hub for entrepreneurship, innovation, and creative enterprise in the South South zone. With growing investments in technology incubation, digital skills acquisition, and startup development, Uyo is positioning itself as a gateway for regional participation in Nigeria’s expanding digital economy, projected by industry experts to exceed 88 billion dollars by 2030.
As the countdown continues, technology leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, policymakers, investors, students, and members of the wider public are expected to converge with a shared purpose: to exchange ideas, build partnerships, and develop solutions that translate technology into real economic and social impact. Beyond exhibitions and panel discussions, the rally offers renewed hope for job creation, scalable enterprises, locally driven innovation, and sustainable development powered by knowledge and creativity.
Ultimately, the Nigeria Tech Rally is not just about showcasing emerging technologies. It is a celebration of human potential, resilience, and collective ambition. It sends a strong message that Nigeria’s future lies not only in natural resources, but in the ingenuity, skills, and innovations of its people. As Uyo prepares to welcome the nation’s tech community, the rally stands as an open invitation to all stakeholders to be part of a transformative movement, where technology becomes a catalyst for inclusive growth and lasting prosperity.
Thus, headquarters,(National Board for Technology Incubation, Abuja) is only a partner and Hi-Tech Centre for women and youths are the organizers.
