GOV EMMANUEL OPENS YOUTH AVENUE, ATLANTIC FM ROAD, ORS
Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, Tuesday started the process of marking his third anniversary in office with the flagging-off of some major roads in Uyo metropolis.
The roads include the Youth Avenue at Mbiabong Etoi, the 1.4 kilometer Concrete Hotel Road and the 1.2 kilometer Radio Nigeria, Atlantic FM access roads at Nsukara Offot.
The Governor accompanied by his Wife Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel , the Deputy Governor Mr Moses Ekpo and some executive council members was led round the projects location by the Commissioner of Works Mr Ephraim Inyang.
The Governor while performing the commissioning said his government was relentless in ensuring the infrastructural expansion of the state.
At Youth Avenue,the Governor who was welcomed by a large crowd of supporters said he was moved by the poor state of the road in October during his visit to a thanksgiving church service and had promised to deliver the road in record time for the people.
He said the road which was of the highest quality, is a fulfillment of his promise to open up communities in the state for development.
Mr Emmanuel said his administration had executed more than 30 roads in Uyo local government and said it would be practically impossible to go round to commission all the roads, adding that the few roads he can commission will represent the entire network of roads executed so far by his government.
The Village Head of the host community Chief Eyo Asuquo Essien and the Vice Chairman of Uyo local government, Mr Udeme Emmanuel narrated the hitherto poor state of the road and appreciated the governor for keeping his promise, pledging to support him to remain in office for eight uninterrupted years to do more for their people.
Also speaking, Mr Enobong Uwah an indigene of Uyo and Chairman of Uyo Capital City Development Authority, said the Governor has remain a promise keeper in the State, adding that never in the history of the state has Uyo received such huge attention from any administration.
Explaining the project, the Commissioner for Works Mr Ephraim Inyang said the road is an alternative entry route into Shelter Afrique Estate and also takes care of evacuation of flood water from the area.
He said the road which was approved by the Governor was executed to the best standards of two side drains and is 7.3meters wide.
At the other projects venue the Concrete Hotel road, the Governor said it might be difficult for people to remember the condition of the road before his intervention, and assured that his government was following a blueprint of ensuring that the state was conducive for developments to thrive.
At Atlantic FM access road, the Governor told the people that the station and its surrounding villages was nearly inaccessible especially during the rainy season, and that prompted his intervention.
He thanked the contractors for maintaining the highest standards as directed and assured that it would take more than 10 -15years before any maintenance can be required of the projects.
He thanked the youths and members of the communities for their cooperation with the contractors to ensure the speedy execution of the roads.
Encomiums from the state lawmaker, Mr Monday Eyo, the village head of Nsukara Eteidung Sunday Asuquo Offiong all assured the Governor of the continuous solidarity and support of their people.
The Governor later inspected the ongoing Uyo - Etinan road promising that the dual carriage way road project will be ready during the state anniversary in September this year.
