AKHA 2019: MONDAY EYO A SLEEPING LAWMAKER SHOULD NOT DREAM FOR SECOND TERM - YOUTH GROUP

The youths of Uyo Local Government Area, under the aegis of Uyo Youths Movement, has strongly kicked against the purported plan of Hon. Monday Eyo to contest for a second term as representative of Uyo State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

In a press release signed by Comrade Anthony Ekong and Mr Akaninyene Essien, president and secretary of the group, respectively, the group stressed that Hon. Monday Eyo has failed as a State legislator due to his inability to sponsor or even co-sponsor a bill or move a single motion on the floor of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. The group described Monday Eyo as a timid lawmaker who is not bold enough to present Uyo matters on the floor of the House of Assembly.

"Hon. Monday Eyo is a failed representative in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. The primary job of a legislator is lawmaking. We are very uncomfortable that our legislator in the State House, Hon. Monday Eyo, for over two and a half years now, has not been able to sponsor or cosponsor even a single bill in the State House of Assembly. He has not even been able to move a motion on any issue in the House of Assembly. He is a sleeping lawmaker, who is timid and unable to present matters affecting Uyo on the floor of the House . He sits down cold and confused when other State legislators are making contributions during plenaries in the House of Assembly. That's not the type of lawmaker we want for Uyo State House in 2019. He should never dream of running for a second term", the release read in part.

The youth group also said that Hon. Monday Eyo cannot speak simple English and, therefore, is unable to communicate and relate well with people.

On the issue of zoning, the group said it is the turn of Etoi clan in Uyo Local government to produce the next State House member. It also stressed that nobody has ever gone for a second term in the House of Assembly in the history of Uyo Local Government Area.

"We are very bold to mention here that it's the turn of Etoi clan in Uyo LGA to produce the next House of Assembly member and nobody will change that position. Let Hon. Monday Eyo stop wasting his time because he is not going for a second term", the group added.

The group thanked the member representing Uyo Federal Constituency in the Federal house of Representatives, Hon. Michael Enyong, for "his friendly disposition towards youth matters and for the many sustainable empowerments and employment opportunities he has secured for the youths of Uyo Federal Constituency."

It also thanked Hon. Michael Enyong for all the legislative and oversight responsibilities he has performed in the Federal House of Representatives, and promised to vote for him during 2019 general elections.
