...flags-off capacity building for another batch of healthcare providers, social workers

More personal protection equipments have been donated to Akwa Ibom State government by the United National Population Fund, UNFPA for onward distribution to healthcare facilities in the state as part of measures aimed mitigating the impacts of the pandemic.
The items which were received, Thursday on behalf of the state government by the Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Multilaterial And Donor Agencies, Mr. Nana Udom at the office of the agency at Federal Housing Estate, Esuene Street, Uyo includes,15,000 surgical face masks, safety goggles,10,000 long gloves, medical kits/Reproductive Health kits, 1000 bottles of hypo, anti-bacterial sanitizers among other items, were handed over to the state by the Programme Officer of an NGO, 'Women Health And Action Research Center, WHARC, Mr. Igboin Ezomo Brian in company of Dr. Ekanem Inyang, Chairman of a Community based organization, 'Applicants Welfare and Development Centre, APWDC.
Receiving the items, the Governor's Aide represented by the Head of Procurement at the Multilateral and Donor Agencies Unit, Mr. Etim Augustine, thanked the donor for partnering Akwa Ibom State in the fight against corona- virus pandemic, and assured of government's resolve in ensuring that the items gets to the end users who are direct beneficiaries.
Speaking earlier while presenting the items, the Programme Officer of WHARC, Mr. Ezomo Brian said Akwa Ibom was among ten states selected by UNFPA as a result of a baseline study conducted, November 2020. He explained that the idea behind the donation of the PPE's was to prevent further spread of the pandemic and to ensure that health workers and other members of the society take necessary precautionary measures in order to stay safe from contacting the dreaded virus which has ravaged the world.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Applicants Welfare and Development Center, Uyo, Dr. Ekanem Inyang, who spoke on behalf of Community Based Organisation, CBO's in the state, hailed the state government for the partnership. According to the facilitator, Mr. Brian, the items are to distributed to health facilities in Eket, Ikot-Ekpene and Uyo.
Meanwhile, another capacity building workshop for healthcare providers and social workers on ''Covid-19 risk migration and GBV/SHR service providers' organized by an NGO, 'Women Health and Action Research Center, WHARC, in partnership with UNFPA, WOLCEF, FEYRep and Akwa Ibom State government has flagged off in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital.
The training which held, Thursday at the Ann's Haven Hotel & Suites, Shelter Afrique Estate, Uyo had in attendance Nurses, mid-wife's, and other health care providers drawn from primary health care centres in Uyo, Eket and Ikot-Ekpene senatorial districts of the state. A resource person from the State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Grace Solomon was on hand to take participants through the lecture session.
Recall that UNFPA had last week donated PPE's to another batch of health care providers in the state during a two day capacity building workshop facilitated by FEYRep and UNFPA at the Special Children's Home.
Governments all over the world are adopting unprecedented measures to prevent further spread of the new coronavirus and a collapse of the healthcare system. In Akwa Ibom State, Governor Udom Emmanuel is not resting on his oars in ensuring adequate measures are put in place to contain the pandemic. Health care facilities in the state are receiving the needed attention through infrastructural uplift, procurement of medical consumables, prompt payment of salaries and other entitlements to health care workers as morale booster, among other laudable efforts .
