...as group holds 2-day youth training in Uyo
A non-profit organization, Christian Rural And Urban Development Association of Nigeria (CRUDAN), South-East Zone, has charged youth in Akwa Ibom State and other states to develop themselves, their skills and self esteem in order to fully participate in governace rather than settling for peanuts from politicians.
The group gave the charge on Monday, April 12, 2021, during the commencement of a 2-day youth workshop training titled "YOUTH IN GOVERNACE" at Le Danti Hotel, Uyo. The event had in attendance youth from Akwa Ibom, Abia and Rivers who are members of different churches, communities and faith-based organizations.
Speaking at the event, the Programme Officer, CRUDAN South-East, Mr Ambrose Paul, opined that a youth who can fully participate in governace or become a voice to reckon with in governace as well as get recommended for any political office is one who has carefully developed himself/herself and built his/her self esteem.
He told the youth to place premium on self worth, cautioning them to keenly consider their self worth before fronting anyone irrespective of their standing in the society or political landscape.
Taking a deeper look into self esteem, Paul noted that to build high self esteem, the future leaders have to inculcate in themselves the qualities of asssertiveness, confidence, care, firmness, respect and loyalty to authorities and good rapport with people.
On human rights and values, which was one of the topics of discourse, the Programme Officer advised the youth to understand their rights and clearly define their values to avoid being relegated to the back seat when critical matters on governace are decided.
On Voter's Education and Election, Paul informed the youth that their votes are priceless. He went further to outline qualities to look out for in candidates seeking election. These qualities include: Righteous governace, integrity, giftedness, good heart and track records.
Meanwhile, CRUDAN is sponsored by Bread for the World, Germany and other non governmental organizations. It was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in 1992 and so far, has been in existence for 29 years. CRUDAN has spread its tentacles across the South-West, South-East, North-East, North-West and Central Zone.
