A respected indigene of Essien Udim, Sir Emem Akpabio, has joined other spirited individuals and groups to register supports and concerns for the persons displaced in the wake of the Essien Udim crisis.
Sir Emem Akpabio, who sympathised with the people, donated food items to them as palliatives during a visit to the IDP camp in Ikot Ekpene.
Sir Akpabio, who encouraged the people to endure the hardship they are currently facing, noted that he is touched by their plights and assured them of his continuous support.
"We, your children, your brothers and parents will continue to support you. We will continue to stand by you. We will continue to stand by Essien Udim people. We will continue to stand by the less privileged," Emem Akpabio assured.
He warned youths in the area to shun violence, anti-social behaviours and vices that are inimical to peace, progress and socio-economic development of the community to avoid the unpleasant consequences of such actions.
While commending the Council Chairman for standing by his people to ensure their welfare is taking care of, Sir Akpabio also lauded the Catholic Diocese of Ikot Ekpene for accommodating the displaced persons in their facilities, describing the gesture as "Christianity in action".
Also donating to the displaced persons was Ati Annang Foundation who was represented by Sir Victor Udofia.
Soeaking, Sir Victor Udofia said the gesture was to ameliorate the suffering the IDPs are currently experiencing.
He commended the grand patron of the organisation, Sir Emem Akpabio for his philanthropic gestures while commending the Essien Udim Council Chairman, Mr Anthony Luke's service-oriented leadership disposition in making sure his people who are affected are taken care of.
In his remarks, the Member representing Essien Udim State Constituency at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Barr Esse G. Umoh thanked Sir Emem Akpabio and Ati Annang for identifying with the people in their time of needs.
The Lawmaker charged the displaced persons to continue to be law-abiding and of good behaviour as government is doing everything possible to ensure they return home and continue their social and legitimate activities.
The Essien Udim Local Government Chairman, Mr Anthony Luke expressed gratitude to Ati Annang Foundation and Sir Emem Akpabio whom he described as "Pillar of support" to him and thanked them for bringing succour to the displaced persons.
He noted that the council and the entire people of Essien Udim are appreciative of their brotherly disposition and timely intervention in their difficult and challenging times and prayed for more blessings in their endeavours.
Also speaking, the Political Leader of Ukana Uwa West Ward 1, Mr John U. Ekanem who expressed appreciation to the donors called on the people to pray for the Ward and Essien Udim as a whole for God to intervene to avoid a repeat of such unfortunate event and described the suffering as unbearable.
