'I OWE ESSIEN UDIM PEOPLE A DUTY TO PROTECT LIVES AND PROPERTY' - LUKE

As the this year Armed Forces Remembrance Day come to an end with the laying of wreaths in honour of the departed heroes, the Chairman of Essien Udim Local Government Council, Mr Anthony Luke has restated his commitment to protect lives and property of his people.


The ceremony which took place at the Essien Udim Cenotaph, Afaha Ikot Ebak was graced by people of all walks of life.


The Chairman reassured the people that his administration will not rest on the fight against crimes and insecurity in the area.


In his words "I owe Essien Udim people a duty to protect lives and their property."



"Cultism and other social vices is now a thing of the past. The security operatives did an excellent job. I commend the DPO  of the Area, CSP Samuel Isiek and other security agents for being proactive in their fight against insecurity elements  in some communities. Urged you to sustain the tempo."


"We would be doing our legionnaires, the fallen heros and their families a disservice, if we omit to commend them for their sacrifices and the high level of patriotism they exhibited  in the course of fighting to restore to our nation, the peace and unity that had suffered serious threat during the war."


"My fellow compatriots, there's no magnitude of honor done our fallen heros and the legionnaires that would compensate for the level of sacrifice they made  to save the soul of our beloved nation," he stressed.


He maintain that his administration has resolved to work  with the leadership of the legion, to sustain a healthy partnership toward making inform decision to address their areas of needs.


The Chairman Nigerian Legion Essien Udim Area Council, MWO AniekanAbasi  Nya Rtd, in his speech, said that the election has come and gone PDP and APC and other political parties should come together for economic development, harness resources and foster peaceful coexistence among the good people of Essien Udim.


According to him, "since peace permeate every dimensions of lives in common. In a true sense, we are children of the same father. So, shall we continue to exhibit the relationship of Cain and Abel. Jacob and Esau.  Let's give peace and love a chance to reighn, and I will love to see this memorial arcade be filled with Noble men and women of intellectual in all time to come. 


He urged the political class of Essien Udim Local Government Area and Akwa Ibom State in particular and Nigeria in general to sheath swords and come together for easy access of prosperity, economic and infrastructure development.
