By Patrick Antia

The Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Council; Hon. Barr. Etetim Onuk on Tuesday flagged off another phase of road grading excercise in Itu Local Government Area with the grading of AEC works road, Ekit Itam 2.

Addressing newsmen shortly after the flag-off, the Council Boss stated that the road grading excercise would improve transportation between communities and also ease rural-urban trade. He posited that having motorable access roads in rural areas remain a major avenue to boost socio-economic development.

The Itu Council helmsman observed that apart from easy access to Ibom Specialist Hospital, the graded road will also increase access to market centers, thereby encouraging commercial farming activities and ensure agricultural products are available at affordable price. He pointed out that when this phase of road grading excercise is completed accross the Local Government Area, there will be increased access to social amenities.

An indigene of Ekit Itam 2: Mr. Michael Ingnatius disclosed that the people of the area suffer great discomfort and damage to their vehicles due to the state of that road. He expressed gratitude to the Council Chairman for coming to their aid. Similarly, resident; Mr. Michael George was full of praises as he recounted the sad experiences of motorists and pedestrians who ply that route.

Meanwhile, the Council Chairman also led the team of construction workers from Julius Berger - whom the Local Government administration is partnering with to execute the grading project - to Etaha Itam Market where he pointed out areas to be graded to ease human and vehicular traffic within and around the market. He also disclosed that the exercise will be successively done till all the areas are covered in the ongoing exercise.
