EKERE HAILS METHODIST CHURCH FOR FOCUSING ON THE GOSPEL

The Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressives' Congress (APC), Obong Nsima Ekere, has commended the Methodist Church Nigeria (MCN) for focusing on the propagation of the gospel of Jesus Christ and shunning the temptation to politicise the church.

Speaking during the closing of the Annual Convention of the Methodist Diocese of Uyo held at Immanuel Methodist Cathedral, Itiam Etoi, Uyo, he lauded the leaders of the church for sticking to the Methodist spirit of non-partisanship unlike some church leaders in Uyo who had deviated from preaching the gospel to play politics.

Ekere, a Knight of John Wesley of the MCN, said he was proud of his Methodist background, being born and raised in the church and vowed never to leave the church.

He expressed gratitude to the Prelate of the MCN, Dr. Samuel Uche, for consistently praying for him over the years and urged members of the Uyo Diocese of the church to continue to pray for him.

Ekere, who is also the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), thanked God for the opportunity to renovate a nursery/primary school building located within the church premises and pledged to contribute to the reconstruction of the church cathedral.

The highpoint of the service was a prayer session led by the Methodist Archbishop of Uyo, Most Rev. Chinemuo Nwankpa, for Ekere, his running mate, Dr. Amadu Attai, the APC Deputy State Chairman, Dr. Ita Udosen, the party's House of Representatives' Candidate for Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency, Barr. Edidiong Idiong, and the House of Assembly Candidate for Nsit Atai State Constituency, Princess Blessing Osom.

Ekere had earlier worshipped at The Apostolic Church, Ikono Road, Ikot Ekpene, and the MCN, Ukana, Essien Udim.
