STOLEN VEHICLE SAGA: EDIDIONG IDIONG REACTS
...Warns against campaign of calumny
Barr Edidiong Idiong, the All Progressives Congress standard bearer for Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency has reacted to recent media reports linking with a stolen vehicle impounded by men of the Nigerian Police Force a fortnight ago in a hotel in Ikot Ekpene.
Reacting to skewed media reports claiming he bought the said impounded vehicle for Mr Black, (an APC stalwart from Ini Local Government Area), Barr Idiong in a breakfast meeting with select journalists in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Capital, distanced himself from such reports stating categorically that he “didn't buy a stolen vehicle for anybody”.
“I didn't buy Black a vehicle. Neither did I give him money to buy a car”, the house of representatives hopeful for Ikono/Ini stated.
Speaking further, Barr Idiong regretted that rather than engage in issue-based campaigns, some people have resorted to politics of blackmail and character assassination.
Barr Idiong who stated that truth would always triumph over falsehood, call on journalists to always be fair in their reportage by balancing their stories before sending it out to the public.
He said the purveyors of the stolen vehicle report did so with malicious intentions, hence the reason they failed to reach out to him to get his reaction before spreading the news.
He stated that as a lawyer, it is untouchable that he would buy a vehicle for somebody without getting obtaining the necessary papers.
He added that when he bought a car that he recently donated to two of his supporters, he bought same from a car stand where he got receipts to hand over to the beneficiaries.
Recall the vehicle in question was stolen all the way from Oyo State and brought down to Akwa Ibom State where it was sold to Mr Black who is still at large.
The bandits who brought the vehicle to Akwa Ibom State are reported to have shot the real owner in Oyo State and absconded with the vehicle.
Through intelligence, the Police tracked the vehicle to a popular hotel in Ikot Ekpene called Macaire Resort where they impounded it and arrested one of the allies of the buyer who abandoned the vehicle in the said hotel upon suspecting that the police were on his trail.
