The Deputy Leader of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and member representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency in the 6th assembly, ,Rt. Hon. Barr. Ime Okon has urged pupils and students of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area to be more productive as regards their academic pursuit.

Barr. Okon gave this charge yesterday during the 2017/2018 Prize Giving Ceremony held at Union Secondary School, Ibiaku for schools in Ibiono Ibom as part of his annual Quiz Competition for both nursery, primary and secondary schools in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.

The occasion which is the sixth and seventh edition of the Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ime Bassey Okon’s quiz competition, an annual event billed to encourage and support the achievements of some outstanding pupils and students which is widely recognized and warmly welcomed by schools in the entire Ibiono Ibom thus launched in 2012, a year after his swearing-in as member representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency in the State House of Assembly.

Barr. Ime Okon in an opening speech stated that nothing can be more fulfilling than investing in education for the betterment and future of his constituents through moral and financial support to both the Schools and Students.

"Kudos must be given to the Akwa Ibom State government under the able leadership of Mr Udom Emmanuel, for the free and compulsory education policy of his administration.

I wish to use this opportunity to thank the sixth Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly headed by the Rt. Hon (Barr) Onofiok Luke and the entire members, for sponsoring, supporting and passing bills that would continue to accelerate education advancement in our dear State" He stated

Rt. Hon. Barr. Ime Okon also stated that the Quiz Competition has been his own little contribution as a representative of the people to make impact in the education sector in his constituency. He opined that his primary aim as a legislator is  to support the free and compulsory education policy and as well encourage his constituents to study hard with remarkable hallmarks in education sector.

"Today, a total of Forty one television sets, education grant, education materials and other fabulous prizes will be presented to pupils and students in fulfillment of my promise to offer effective representation to my constituents.

That is not all, my office will give the sum of Thirty Thousand Naira (N30,000.00) each, as bursary to sixty Ibiono Ibom Students in recognized tertiary institutions. The Management of Union Secondary School will be handsomely rewarded for hosting this event for seven years." He added


Speaking at the occasion, the speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and member representing Nsit Ubium state constituency, Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke applauded the didactic and scintillating gestures displayed by Barr. Ime Okon to his constituents which he vowed to protect, defend and give them effective and efficient representation.

"My grandfather Rt Hon. Ime Okon is not contesting for any political Office but this gesture reveals the true dividends of democracy in Akwa Ibom State.

The greatest investment one can make is the investment of education which Ime Basy Okon has done today " Barr. Onofiok Luke.

Barr. Onofiok Luke assured the people of Ibiono that the Union Secondary School will be renovated courtesy of Akwa Ibom State Government. He also promised to give educational grant of fifty thousand Naira each to twenty two (22) students drawn from eleven wards of the Area.

The Honourable Commissioner in charge of Ministry for Environment and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Education Dr. Iniobong Essien, Prof. Victor Onoka respectively also harped on the need to invest myraidly in education has  it will give Akwa Ibom students the opportunity to compete with their fellow contemporaries in the society.

Meanwhile, the Chairman House Committee on Information in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Ime Okon used the occasion to solicit support for His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel second term ambition which according to him said,

"However, as we approach the general elections, I implore my people to return our performing Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, for a second term in office.

I beseech everyone to see Udom’s re-election as our personal project.  Without doubt, the governor has performed well in his first term. Therefore, it is our conviction that his second term will benefit Ibiono Ibom more." Barr. Ime Okon.

The event attracted all and sundry cutting across Akwa Ibom State and Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.
