AKHA: NIGERIA POLICE THREATENING PEACE, DEMOCRACY IN AKWA IBOM SAYS GOVERNOR EMMANUEL

NIGERIA POLICE THREATENING PEACE, DEMOCRACY IN AKWA IBOM SAYS GOVERNOR EMMANUEL
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has broken the silence over the activities of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) joining forces with thugs and criminals to cause breakdown of law and order, thereby threatening democracy in the country and the relative peace currently enjoyed in the state.

The Governor said this while briefing the Akwa Ibom media community on Tuesday after resolving the dispute at the State House of Assembly caused by five sacked APC members of the House, with the aide of the police to lay siege at the Assembly with the sole aim of impeaching the Speaker, Barr. Onofiok Luke, and suspend the other 20 House members.

Mr. Emmanuel sounded that the peace currently enjoyed in Akwa Ibom, which was recently adjudged most peaceful state in the country after doing everything within its reach to achieve that, has been threatened by men of the Nigeria Police Force supervised by the Commissioner for Police, Musa Kimo, recently deployed to the state.

He said the police boss was acting against an order by the Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, on the Speaker to declare vacant the seats of the five House members who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) without justifiable reasons as required by the Constitution.

Governor Emmanuel further stated that while the siege lasted at the House of Assembly, some people were arrested with fake army uniforms 18 AK-47 rifles but the Commissioner for Police ordered for their release, and warned that they must not be released.

He said frantic efforts have been made to call the attention of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, the Presidency and all arms of the security agencies into the matter but they all turned deaf eyes, leaving Akwa Ibom people to defend themselves despite the fact that the state’s resources are being used to maintain security in the country.

“I have never heard anywhere that police is partisan. This is the first time where the entire police structure belongs to a political party, but since we don’t have a police, we don’t have anything apart from God and our people, we want to let the whole world know that whatever happens in this state is not caused by any other thing than the Nigeria Police Force led by the Commissioner for Police, Musa Kimo.”

Governor Emmanuel also disclosed that in the last couple of weeks, three different Police Commissioners have been deployed to the state, adding that the present commissioner, since assumption, has been holding meetings with the people whose seats were declared vacant by the Federal High Court.

“…and today, he led them to the House of Assembly with thugs and we are saying here that the peace in Akwa Ibom is being threatened, and our own unity as a people is being intimidated.

“They were meant to maintain peace and order, not to cause chaos in someone else state. And if they are playing politics this way, there is no room for democracy in this country.

“Their plan is to cause mayhem in the state so that election will not be held the same day with the general elections but we are telling them that if election will not hold the same day, they should forget about election in Akwa Ibom on that day, either you hold election the same day every other state is holding or  forget about election here.”

The State Governor however called for immediate redeployment of the newly Commissioner for Police, Musa Kimo, to the state for aiding and abetting the illegal invasion of the state House of Assembly by sacked APC lawmkers.

“Let’s assume that he has finished his course. I want to call on the police IG to withdraw the police commissioner, the head of the QRS must be withdrawn so that we can maintain peace,” Governor Emmanuel maintained, and warned those who are bent on perpetrating war to bring their children to lead the war rather than keep their own children abroad while using other people’s children, or channel their energy in combating the Boko Haram insurgents in the country.
