NDDC To Build Auditorium At UNIUYO

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is to build an auditorium at the University of Uyo in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

*The Managing Director of the commission, Mr. Nsima Ekere, announced this on Sunday night during an interactive session with members of the university's senior staff club at the club house within the university's Town Campus in Uyo.*

Ekere told members of the club, mostly lecturers, who turned out massively, that he was in the process of awarding contract for the construction of the auditorium.

He noted with delight that the dualization of the access road to the university's Permanent Campus was completed while work was nearing completion on the flood channelization and hostel construction, still at the Permanent Campus.

Ekere, the Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressives' Congress (APC), said he would explore the possibility of@ constructing an access road to the club house in the remaining period of his stay at NDDC but promised to execute the project immediately on assumption of office as Governor in 2019 if he was unable to do so at NDDC.

He pledged to continue to partner with the university community for the sustainable development of the state,  pointing out that he had already started the partnership by picking a lecturer in the university and former APC State Chairman, Dr. Amadu Attai, as his running mate.

Ekere stressed that the 2019 gubernatorial election will be a referendum on the performance of the present State Government, lamenting that most of the landmark facilities that used to distinguish the state have either been destroyed or allowed to rot away.

Said he: "The election is not going to be about sentiments. It is going to be an assessment of how we have fared in the state in the last three and a half years."

In his speech, the President of the club, Prof. Ini Jona, thanked Ekere for the visit and prayed God to grant his aspiration.

Jona called on the political class to engage in robust and issue-based campaigns in the run-up to the elections.

Other speakers, Prof. Chris Ekong, Dr. Gibson Okworo, Dr. Aniekan Brown, Dr. Nkereuwem Edemekong, Dr. Usen Ikpe and Lt. Col. Nkanga Effik (retd.), in their separate remarks, hailed Ekere's performance at NDDC and pledged the support of members of the club to his ambition.
