African Women's footballer of the year Asisat Oshoala announces her arrival to the African Women Cup of Nations with a Hatrick against Equatorial Guinea to seal qualification to the Semi finals. A first half hatrick was complemented by goals from Desire Oparanozie, Rita Chikwelu and Francisca Ordega to to trash the Nzalang Nacionale 6-0 in Cape Coast.
Oshoala who won the woman of the match award thanked her teammates for making it possible, also attributed it to her working hard since the first loss to South Africa in match day 1,
"It's a very good feeling to get the complete 3 points for the team, happy to be on the score sheet my first goal of the tournament so far and it started three goals, I have been working so hard so I think I deserve this. I'm really happy about this, grateful to my teammates for the work everyone put in, for the determination even after loosing the first game to South Africa in Cape Coast we didn't give up, we just spoke to ourselves that we need to show that we champions, we the leaders of Africa. I think we have actually improve, it's a great game for us."
The Queen of Women Football last scored for Nigeria in the African Women Cup of Nations during the group stages against Kenya in 2016, a tournament she finished as highest goal scorer with 6 goals, since then she's tried to find the back of the net on 4 occasions the latest being the game against Zambia but she held on to bang in 3 goals. An elated Oshoala said the pressure is off her as other strikers are scoring and that's good for the team as the confidence level is high.
"For me getting the goals today, great confidence, comes with a lot of team work and not just me. Great performance from myself today, putting myself, taking responsibility, making sure we score lots of goals today, getting a Hatrick,my teammates scoring goals as well. Everyone now has confidence in every striker in the team because each game we have different strikers scoring goals, we don't have to depend on just Asisat, we have Desire, Franscisca, Ajibade, Anam, I might be a plus, more boost and confidence but these are players that can score goals so we have confidence in ourselves."
The Super Falcons of Nigeria will on Tuesday take on the Lioness of Cameroon in the Semi Final at the Accra Sports Stadium, a team the Falcons defeated at the Final of the African Women Championship in Yaounde 2016 while South Africa will slug it out against Mali at the Cape Coast Stadium.
