Ime Okon Pays Bursary To Ibiono Ibom students,


...Rewards Winners of Quiz Competition

Deputy Leader, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and Member representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency Rt. Hon (Barr.) Ime Bassey Okon, has rewarded winners of  2017/2018 (6th & 7th) Editions of annual quiz competition for Schools in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.

The Deputy Leader also presented a sum of 30 thousand Naira bursary to not less than 61 students from Ibiono Ibom LGA.

The presentation which was done, Wednesday, during the Prize-giving ceremony of 2017/2018 editions of annual Quiz competition for Schools at Union Secondary School, Ibiaku, Ibiono Ibom LGA, featured cultural display and song rendition by school children.

Speaking at the event, the sponsor of the programme, Rt Hon (Barr.) Ime Okon, congratulated the winners of the sixth and seventh Editions of the quiz competition and charged them "not to get ahead of other people but to get ahead of ourselves"

His words: "As you already know, the competition is an annual event widely recognized and warmly welcomed by schools in the entire Ibiono Ibom. Launched in 2012, a year after my inauguration as member representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, the competition has been expanded to four categories, viz; Nursery, Primary, Junior and Senior Secondary Schools.

"It has recognized pupils and students who have not only excelled in their academic pursuits but also developed all-round skills and attained remarkable achievements in the domains they have a strong passion for or are talented at. Among the winners, some are outstanding in Mathematics, English Language, General Knowledge and Sciences." he said.

He explained that the quiz competition is his little contribution to impact in the education sector as the people's representative, adding that the primary aim has been to support the free and compulsory education policy and as well encourage pupils and students to study hard.

Barr Okon appreciated parents, principals and teachers for the concerted effort and support in enhancing whole-person development of the upcoming erudite scholars in grooming them for future leadership.

The law maker extolled the leadership of the sixth Assembly led by Rt. Hon (Barr.) Onofiok Luke for their contributions and support towards the success of the programme.

He also eulogised His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel for demonstrating his love and affection for people by taking over Union Secondary School. "This has further substantiated the sincerity of his administration to provide a serene environment for our children to easily access and enjoy the free and compulsory education in line with global standard."

He however warned those whose motive is to create illusive insecurity situation in the State for their egocentric interest to cease forthwith, as some of their actions may spell doom for the democracy.

Also speaking, the speaker Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon (Barr.) Onofiok Luke appreciated the Deputy House Leader for the rare gesture and adviced students to be more serious in their studies and to value relationship with friends while in schools.

He described Barr. Okon as a man who has value for education and a man who does things not for his political interest. He supported the programme with half a million Naira and promised to pay 50 thousand Naira for 22 students drawn from the 11 wards in Ibiono LGA.

On his part, the Chairman of the occasion, Prof Okon Ifut, commended the the Deputy Leader for giving his constituent the best gift of life and advised other leaders to toe the line of Barr. Ime Okon.

He urged the winners of the quiz competition and bursary beneficiaries not to relent in pursuing their academic career in life.

Other dignitaries at the event were, commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Dr Iniobong Essien, commissioner for Education, Prof Victor Inoka represented by Desk Officer for Students Matters Ministry of Education, Mr Selom selom, Paramount Ruler of Ibiono Ibom LGA, HRM Okuku Dr Ime U. Inyang, Principals, Head Teachers, Parents, Pupils, Students amongst others.

A total of forty one flat screen TV set, giant size OX standing fan, customized exercise books, education grant, awards and other fabulous prizes were presented to the winners.
