FALLOUT OF AKHA CRISIS: EKET YOUTHS BLAME FG WITH PROTEST
By Assam Abia.
Youths of Eket on Wednesday blamed the APC led Federal government for attempting to "overthrow" the PDP government of Akwa Ibom State unconstitutionally, using the police and other security agencies in causing mayhem in the State House of Assembly.
The youths in their numbers blocked the entrance to Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited, MPN facilities in Eket in a peaceful protest as the Federal government is in a joint venture business with the oil giant in oil production.
Speaking on behalf of the protesters, comrade Stanley Edon said there were enough evidence that the newly posted commissioner of police in Akwa Ibom was doing the bidding of his APC influenced boss in Abuja in the ongoing fracas in the State House of Assembly.
Answering questions on why the youths should vent their anger on Mobil when the House of Assembly crisis is purely political, Mr Edon said the youths want to shot down production of crude oil to show the Federal government that its financial and political strength is from the State which produces over 65% of the crude oil the country depends on.
"APC led Federal government is surviving through us and cannot use our resources to intimidate us. We can not fold our hands and watch the illegal overthrow of a democratic elected government in the State".
"The partisan role of the Police in the ongoing House of Assembly fracas goes to show that truly the rumor of the use of Federal might in 2019 against the State government is real, and we can not allow the threat of Warsaw to come to be", the youth leader said.
We want the Federal government to allow democracy reign in Akwa Ibom State for the sake of peace, we are peace loving people but if pushed to the wall we are ready to disrupt oil production in the State", he said further.
The protesters carried placards with inscription such as "FG, don't use our resources to intimidate us", "Warsaw can not take place in AK", "AKHA crisis is fueled by the police" and "we say NO to the RAPE on democracy by the police in the House of Assembly matter" among others.
The youths barricaded the gates of Mobil Housing Estate and the company's Airstrip with coffins and other traditional injunctions.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO for Akwa Ibom State police Command was not available to speak on the issue as of time of filling this report. His mobile phone number was not going through.
